From the Board
We did not meet in December since we were all doing all the same Christmas stuff you were doing. Looking ahead, we are focusing on our youth programs and creating a conference for leaders as well as our ministers in September. Meanwhile, as you step forth into a new year, we encourage you to "Hold fast to dreams" in the words of Langston Hughes. Be bold and faith filled and soaked with visions of what can be. Here's a poem to inspire you.
Entrance
Whoever you are: step out of doors tonight,
Out of the room that lets you feel secure.
Infinite vision is open to your sight.
Whoever you are.
With eyes that have forgotten how to see
From viewing things already too well-known,
You lift up into the dark a single black tree
And put it in the sky: slender, alone.
And you have made the world. And it is vast
And like a word still ripening in your mouth.
And when at last you comprehend its meaning,
Close your eyes and tenderly set it free.
By Rainer Maria Rilke, from The Book of Images: Poems.
