Rev. McDowell has the distinction of being the first ordained minister in the USA granted civil rights by a precedent-setting federal ruling. Her Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary specialized in spiritual care and counseling, with a focus on systems and womanist/eco-feminist liberation theories. She graduated summa cum laude as co-valedictorian from Seattle Pacific University, with majors in cross-cultural communication and socio-cultural anthropology.
